Introduction
India observed the National Road Safety Week under the theme “Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha.” Despite numerous efforts, India continues to rank first in the number of road accident deaths globally, accounting for almost 11% of all road accident-related fatalities. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), a staggering 153,972 people lost their lives in road crashes in 2021 alone.
Despite such initiatives, the persistently high rates of road accidents and fatalities emphasise the urgent need for more effective enforcement of traffic laws and the implementation of comprehensive road safety education programs. This not only serves as a call to action for policymakers and stakeholders but also highlights the importance of individual responsibility in adhering to safety norms to significantly reduce the burden of road accidents on society.
Importance of Road Safety Week
National Road Safety Week serves as a critical platform to educate the public about essential road safety practices. The campaigns during this week focus on various aspects of road safety, including:
- Responsible Drinking and Driving: Promoting the dangers of driving under the influence and encouraging responsible behaviour.
- Seat Belt Usage: Emphasising the life-saving benefits of wearing seat belts.
- Helmet Wearing: Highlighting the importance of helmets for two-wheeler riders.
- Avoiding Over-speeding: Educating on the risks associated with excessive speed.
Role of Citizens
While government intervention is crucial, the responsibility of ensuring road safety also lies with the citizens. As responsible members of society, it is imperative to adhere to traffic rules, prioritise personal safety, and care for the lives of others on the road. Road safety training has become a vital intervention today, not only to instil fear of legal repercussions but to promote the value of safety for oneself and loved ones.
Black Diamond Motors’ Initiative

At Black Diamond Motors, we are committed to enhancing road safety awareness among our employees. During the National Road Safety Week, we conducted a comprehensive road safety training program for our factory workers. Led by our Production Head, Mr. Alok Ranjan, the training focused on educating employees about responsible driving practices and the importance of following traffic rules.
Mr. Alok Ranjan emphasized, “Road safety starts with you. Make it a priority.” His words resonated with everyone, underscoring the crucial role each individual plays in ensuring safety on the roads. The training covered essential topics such as responsible drinking and driving, wearing a seat belt, helmet usage, and avoiding over-speeding.
By instilling the values of personal safety and the safety of loved ones, we aim to foster a culture of responsible driving within our organization. At Black Diamond Motors, we believe that road safety is not just a slogan but a way of life. Our initiative is a step towards creating a safer environment for all.
